My local Fleet Farm store has a Coleman Powermate VP201 Air Compresser for sale It is a oilless model with a 2 gal. tank. I will be using it to fill up some tires and use to blow out tapped holes in cast iron. Will this unit be alright for my purposes?

They conveniently left out motor size & cfm. I have one similar received as a gift. 1/3 hp, 100 psi, 1cfm @40psi, 1/2cfm @90psi, 2 gal tank. Not much good for car tires or use with an air gun. 4.5cfm @100psi and 6cfm @40 psi would be about the minimum.

Ah - I didn't look at your link. That is a China compressor. I got one just like it from Menards, painted yellow, don't know the brand stuck on it (Pro-Force?), but the only thing Coleman (formerly Sanborn, about 40 miles from me) does with these is buy those low end models by the container & stick a label on them.

I got it for the other location we own - it was $49.99 a year ago. Saw it on sale again 2 weeks ago for $59.99. Don't pay what they are showing..

Anyhow, it takes forever to air up a tire bigger than 14'. Has no capacity.

Yes, at least a new WIP. I'm just over the big DX implementation overhauling and refactoring. VEG wrote:Dege, are you planning to release a new version of the dgVoodoo in the near future? Scitech gldirect 5 0 2 full key.

But it does work well for a cheap little compressor. Sure glad I have it. Restoring my sis' barn this summer, & used it to test-run the new framing nailer I got. Didn't expect much. Hey, it runs the nailer real well, because we were shooting 10-15 nails, then took time to set up the next piece. Ended up doing 1/2 the job with that little compressor, now that we got to nailing the flooring down I got the big compressor out, little one couldn't keep up with shooting a couple sheets worth of nails.

So, if you find the same thing for 1/2 price - and you should - it does work ok. Just don't expect much at all for refill rate, etc.

I currently live in an apartment complex and don't want to invest a lot of money in a compressor that will be to small when I buy a house. Just something cheap to blow out a few holes and fill up some bicycle tires now and then. I even thought about a portable tank. Might be the way to go.

Brad, they aren't real good compressors. I think you can get a better one for less from Northern Tool & Equipment.....Good luck with what ever you choose.

I'll agree with bob. it will air up tires and blow dust/shavings, but not much more. Check wiht your local TSC, Lowes, etc. for a unit that will be more useful, and cost very little, if any, more.
